You might not know this about me, but I’m Portuguese. I’ve been living in Berlin for the past four years, but Lisbon is my hometown. If you’ve ever visited the city, you can relate when I say I could write a book on how beautiful it is. Every time I go home I always come back with my heart a bit smaller.
So, if this melancholic statement didn’t convince you, let me tell you this: the vegan scene is finally booming there! I’m not just finding new restaurants every time I go there; the supermarkets now also offer plenty of vegan products. Besides, fresh produce is abundant. It doesn’t matter the season you choose, I guarantee you’ll find some of the best veggies out there.
Without further ado – these are my favourite spots in Lisbon.
Veg-e-tal is a vegetarian restaurant on the other side of the river, in Almada. The restaurant has daily dishes that change every week. Their menu offers traditional Portuguese and Brasilian dishes with a vegetarian twist. Every dish is exploding with flavour and they always have at least two 100% vegan options on the menu. Go and try it! You can even make the trip to Almada by boat 🙂
This is one of the most inspiring and beautiful restaurants you’ll find in Lisbon. They also have daily dishes that change every week. Their cuisine is beautiful and creative. You’ll find multicultural influences in each dish that will make your palate travel around the world. Besides, it’s in Parque das Nações – a part of the city you definitely won’t want to miss.
And finally, I couldn’t end this post without sharing the best gelato in the world. Yes, you heard it correctly. I’ve been to Italy several times and nothing beats Santini. Their sorbets are all vegan and it’s like eating fruit straight from the trees. It’s so so good. I suggest going to their new Location in Belém and visiting CCB afterwards. You’ll not regret it.
I hope I was able to awaken your curiosity for my lovely city. As I said, the vegan scene keeps growing so I can’t wait to update you on my new discoveries next time I go there. As always, make sure to follow me on if you want to travel with me in real time 🙂
